Adhesive How To
For the strongest bond, apply Skinister Medical Adhesive Spray to clean, dry surfaces and let it dry fully before attaching your device.
Start with a clean, dry surface.
Personal care products can leave moisturizers, oils, or residue on the skin that reduce adhesion.
- Clean and dry the area before use.
- Keep adhesive away from the stoma, eyes, mouth, and broken skin.
- If needed, remove residue with adhesive remover or isopropyl alcohol before applying adhesive.
Use a thin, even coat.
Apply adhesive where your pouching system, barrier, wafer, dressing, or device needs extra hold.
For maximum hold, apply to both the skin and the skin-facing side of the device when appropriate.
- Do not use a heavy wet layer.
- Keep adhesive within the contact area.
- Avoid overspraying into openings or sensitive areas.
Wait 2 to 3 minutes before attaching.
Do not attach your device while the adhesive is still wet. Let it dry until tacky so the solvent can evaporate and the bond can form correctly.
Adhesive not sticking? The most common reason is that the adhesive was still wet, the surface was dirty, or a barrier product blocked the bond.
Follow your healthcare provider’s guidance for ostomy or medical device use.
Use a silicone-based remover.
Skinister Medical Adhesive Remover is designed to dissolve silicone adhesive. Water, alcohol, and petroleum removers are usually not effective for this type of adhesive.
Removal technique: Saturate the adhesive with remover, then wipe with a lifting motion instead of scrubbing or smearing.
- Start at the outer edge of the adhesive.
- Spray or apply remover and give it time to work.
- Peel gently while adding more remover underneath.
- Wipe away leftover residue with a lifting motion.
