Adhesive How To

For the strongest bond, apply Skinister Medical Adhesive directly to healthy, intact skin whenever possible and let it dry fully before attaching your device.

Important: Barrier Wipes & Sprays May Reduce Adhesion

Barrier wipes and sprays help protect fragile and damaged skin, but may significantly reduce adhesive strength and wear time.

For a secure bond, apply Skinister Medical Adhesive directly to healthy, intact skin whenever possible.

Applying Skinister adhesive to clean dry skin
1 Apply to Peristomal Skin

Apply a small amount next to the stoma and spread it evenly with a fingertip.

Avoid applying to damaged skin or mucous membranes. The spray top is designed to deliver a targeted application that helps minimize overspray.

2 Coat the Wafer (Optional)

Optionally coat the wafer.

Optionally apply adhesive to the wafer and spread evenly with a fingertip.

Adhesion may be up to 50% stronger when applied to both the skin and wafer.

3 Allow Adhesive to Fully Dry (~60 Seconds)

Wait until the adhesive is tacky.

Allow adhesive to fully dry to a tacky finish before applying your device.

Adhesive not sticking? The most common reason is that the adhesive was still wet, the surface was dirty, or a barrier product blocked the bond.

4 Apply Your Wafer or Bag

Press gently around the barrier.

Apply your wafer or pouching system as usual and press gently around the barrier to help set the adhesive.

That’s it — enjoy a stronger seal and greater peace of mind.

Follow your healthcare provider’s guidance for ostomy or medical device use.

1 Remove Your Wafer or Bag

Go slow and let the remover do the work.

When it is time to change your pouch, use Skinister Medical Adhesive Remover to loosen the seal.

Spray around the wafer or barrier edge, then peel slowly while working more remover underneath.

Use remover to help clean adhesive residue from the skin after pouch removal.

Tip: Scrubbing can spread the adhesive residue without lifting it from the skin. Instead, wipe with a firm lifting or rolling motion to help lift residue away from the skin.

Can you feel the difference? Skinister Medical Adhesive Remover is formulated to dry more slowly for a gentler, less drying feel on skin.

FAQs

Try these quick fixes for common adhesive, remover, and spray pump issues.

Why is the adhesive not sticking well?
Make sure the adhesive is fully dry before attaching your device. Also check for oils, moisturizers, residue, or barrier products that may block adhesion.
Can barrier products reduce adhesion?
Yes. Barrier wipes and sprays help protect fragile and damaged skin, but may significantly reduce adhesive strength and wear time. For a secure bond, apply Skinister Medical Adhesive directly to healthy, intact skin whenever possible.
Why is the adhesive difficult to remove?
Use Skinister Medical Adhesive Remover. Spray around the wafer or barrier edge, then peel slowly while working more remover underneath. Wipe residue with a firm lifting or rolling motion instead of scrubbing.
Why is the spray not coming out?
The nozzle may be clogged. Wipe the nozzle with Skinister Medical Adhesive Remover and gently clear buildup with a fingernail. If the pump is defective, contact us for help.
Why is my skin irritated?
The adhesive is hypoallergenic, but long wear times can trap perspiration and cause mild irritation. Pause use and let skin recover. For significant or persistent irritation, contact us.
